raised hands with questionsIf you’re anything like us, you always think of a question just after leaving the doctor’s office, and you end up kicking yourself for not asking when you had the chance. If you’re considering getting Invisalign for either yourself or your child, here are 5 important questions you should ask the team at D’Andrea & Pantera DMD so you can know everything you need before starting treatment.

“Can you explain how Invisalign works?”

Most people just know that Invisalign is an alternative to braces that can straighten the teeth without using metal brackets and wires. So now that you know what it doesn’t have, do you actually understand how it straightens the teeth? You can learn a little more about it on our Invisalign page, or better yet, just come see us so your dentist in Hamden can explain in person!

“How long will treatment last for me/my child?”

This is a big one. In short, we can’t really tell you until we get a chance to examine you or your child’s teeth. From there, we’ll be able to give you an estimate as to how long your treatment may take. In general, treatment time with Invisalign typically ranges from about 12-18 months, though it is shorter in many cases.

“How much will it cost and are there payment options?”

The overall cost of your Invisalign treatment will be directly related to the answer from the last question. During your initial consultation, we will talk about your potential cost as well as discuss our practice’s numerous financial options. We are happy to work with dental insurance if you have it, and we can also offer you flexible, low to no interest financing with CareCredit. Overall, we’ll work with you to make sure your treatment fits easily into your budget.

“Will Invisalign affect my diet?”

One of the best things about Invisalign is that it doesn’t require you to drastically change your diet like traditional braces do. This is because you can take the trays off whenever you need to eat. We do advise that patients try and avoid drinking darkly colored beverages (like coffee and wine) while wearing their trays as this can stain them. It’s also a good idea to limit the consumption of sticky foods that may become trapped between the teeth and the trays. Overall, however, just by taking care of your teeth and following these simple tips, your diet should remain unrestricted.

“What will happen after my Invisalign treatment?”

In most cases, we’ll have a patient wear a retainer in order to maintain their newly straightened teeth. Over time, they’ll be able to wear it less and less. This may be different depending on your particular case, and your dentist will be able to give you a better idea at your initial consultation.

Any More Questions?

Of course, we know that you probably have many more questions than this, and we hope that you get a chance to ask them all! The ones we outlined here tend to be the most commonly asked and give our patients a lot of the information they need. We’d love to tell you more about how Invisalign will specifically give you or your child a perfectly straight and beautiful smile, but for that, you just need to come see us!

If you have any other questions about Invisalign, or if you’d like to schedule a consultation and ask them in person, please contact us today for an appointment.
