If you’ve been wearing Invisalign for a while, then you’re aware of the adjustments you need to make once you begin treatment. The way you look at meals, oral health, and other aspects of your life will likely change. Unfortunately, some people lose track of their Invisalign treatment plan. This can lead to some issues, such as delays or backtracking. To help you get your Invisalign treatment back on track, keep reading for four helpful tips.

Tip #1: Use Invisalign Chewies

These soft rolls are made from a flexible material that can be useful for patients looking to get their Invisalign treatment back on track. It can help correct issues with your trays if your aligners aren’t “tracking” your teeth properly. After you put your trays in, chew on your Invisalign chewies for a few minutes. This will press your aligners into the correct position. Using Invisalign chewies is especially helpful for patients who have recently started wearing a new set of aligners.

Tip #2: Wear Your Aligners Often Enough

One common reason why people fall off with their Invisalign treatment is that they don’t wear their aligners as often as they’re supposed to. Since they’re removable, this leads many people to believe that they can take their trays off whenever they feel like it. Unfortunately, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

To be as effective as possible, Invisalign needs to be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day. Neglecting to do so will likely lead to treatment delays. It’s wise to schedule mealtimes in advance to ensure that you have plenty of time to eat without interrupting your orthodontic treatment.

Tip #3: Consider Backtracking

When your Invisalign treatment gets off track, it can be discouraging. Though backtracking isn’t ideal, it sometimes it’s the solution to this treatment issue. Your orthodontist will have you swap out your current set of aligners for the previous one. This will help move your teeth into the correct position so you can move on to the next set of aligners. Though this is a bit of a setback, it may be the best way to continue moving forward.

Tip #4: Ask About Treatment Revisions

Though your orthodontist will work out an Invisalign timeline with you before you begin treatment, it won’t always go as planned. Your teeth may not always move as quickly as your orthodontist thought they would. In this case, ask them about revising your treatment. This could involve getting new aligners, buttons, or attachments to continue your treatment progress.

If you have any issues during your Invisalign treatment, make sure to speak with your orthodontist as soon as possible. They will work with you to come up with the best solution to hope you continue on your journey towards a more uniform beam!
